Nestled between the Andalucian sierras and the sea is Vejer de la Frontera  one of the most famous of the Pueblos Blancos in Andalucia and  the prettiest. This hilltop town is the perfect  place to explore and enjoy the delights of the Costa de la Luz.

Vejer de la Frontera is a small, perfectly conserved, historic town surrounded by beautiful countryside. It has been granted the status of  Area of Historic and Artistic Interest and has    also won the Most Beautiful Towns of Spain  award.  The old town is a labyrinth of cobbled alleys and arches and the beautiful Moorish architecture abounds. Vejer has a number of historical monuments; a castle, ancient walls which surround the old town, a minaret of the    old mosque, churches, convents and windmills.

It is the ideal place to stroll around and discover flower filled courtyards. The steep, zigzagging streets and whitewashed houses also hide   internet cafes, hotels, guests houses, shops, restaurants, art galleries and side walk-cafes.

The beaches on the Costa de la Luz are amongst the best in Europe - huge stretches of golden sand that are virtually deserted during the week. You can relax and unwind at the nearest beach of El Palmar which is a 10 minute drive.

Vejer has a number of fiestas and ferias throughout the year including Semana Santa (Easter) with processions and the bull run on Easter Sunday, the Spring Feria in April, the Fiesta of San Juan in June and the August Feria which ends two weeks of music in the town with a marvellous fireworks display.

For adventurous days out there is kite surfing in Tarifa, surfing at El Palmar beach or scuba diving just of the coast of Barbate. Bolonia with the amazing Roman ruins and fish restaurants dotted along the beach. You can trek through the Alcornocales Natural Park or book a day at the Jerez School of Equestrian Arts and watch the horses training to dance in their world famous exhibitions. Enjoy a tour and sherry sampling at the Sherry Bodegas in Jerez or stop at Cadiz and enjoy its vibrant street life and stunning architecture. For nature lovers there are trips from Tarifa and Gibraltar to see the dolphins and whales in the Straits of Gibraltar and observe them in their natural environment, bird-watching all along the coast, horse-riding on the beach and a number of different national parks to visit. A trip to Africa is just an hour away so why not pop over to Tangier for the day and discover the delights of the medina.   Children are also well catered for with the Aqua Park in Jerez, the NMAC exhibition at Montenmedia and of course sandcastles on the beach.  Montenmedio also hosts the world famous equestrian Sunshine Tour every year and has also been host to the European PGA tour.
